Depending on the area of Fremont County where you live, you could be in zone 1 to 5. Cañon City, Penrose, Florence, and the warmer areas of Fremont County are in zone 5. While the colder areas could even be in zone 1 or 2.

Regardless of the space you have in your yard for gardening, there is always a favorite vegetable or flavorful herb that will grow in a container. Tomatoes are a perfect plant for growing on a porch because of the variety of types there are. You can grow cherry or grape tomatoes either in a hanging basket or in a large pot. 

Pepper plants can also thrive in a container. Keep in mind, both need adequate hours of sunlight per day in order to yield produce for you. Herbs are another option for growing, as they can grow in smaller pots either in a sunny window or in a pot outside. 

This is a common question, as these terms can be the most confusing when it comes to plant care. Part sun means anywhere from 4 to 6 hours of direct sun each day. Part shade can mean a shorter period of sunlight, but it mostly refers to keeping the plant out of the direct, most intense sunlight of the afternoon.

At Brady's Garden & Spa Center, we carry a variety of part sun and part shade flowers and shrubs. 

It is best to plant trees and shrubs in the fall, so that the plant can send all of it's energy to root development. By the time the warmer months arrive, your young tree or shrub will have strong roots that are able to thrive and send all energy to making leaves and foliage. 

This is a tricky one, especially in Colorado. We recommend planting your garden (both your flower garden and your vegetable garden) when the ground has thawed and the chance of freeze is gone. This date usually falls after Mother's Day each year. 

Though Colorado is known to still have some dicey weather after that date, if you have a way to protect your plants should a late spring snow fall, you should still be safe. Though, it's best to always look at the extended forecast to get a good idea when possible. 

At Brady's Garden & Spa Center, we recommend fertilizing coniferous and deciduous trees and all shrubs twice a year, once in early spring and once in early summer. This will keep your trees and shrubs nourished throughout the entire growing season. 

Yes! This is especially important to do with coniferous trees, as they lose moisture through their needles throughout the winter time. But even if you only have deciduous trees, or shrubs, on your property, it is still important to give your plants regular water during the winter months. 

Although we only sell high-quality, sturdy yard art pieces at Brady's Garden & Spa Center, during the winter, or even during strong summer storms, it is important to make sure your investment is protected. 

If an item is small and light enough, it is best to move it out of the yard and into a garage or covered area to remain protected. But it's not as easy to pick up your stone bird bath and move it each season. 

For bigger items, we recommend wrapping it in burlap and then covering with a waterproof material. The burlap will absorb any condensation created under the waterproof material so it won't add moisture to your item. 

Yes! We have a huge selection of easy-to-care-for houseplants that require very little watering or maintenance at all. Once you see how easy it is to keep certain houseplants alive, you can come back to Brady's Garden & Spa Center and try one that requires a little more care.
